WHAT DRIVES MIKE BRITTON
Honor, Courage, Commitment
"These are more than just words to me. They serve as foundational pillars in how I have endeavored to conduct my life. First, and foremost they serve as my guardrails for how I want to walk in faith and obedience to my Lord, Jesus Christ. They are also the three primary character traits of what is expected of a United States Marine. From the first day of boot camp, until I retired twenty years later, they guided my service to this great country, and how I conducted myself as a Marine.
They are not only the foundation of how I think, act, and speak, they also serve as my anchor points in life. These three character traits, like everything else in life is a choice, and I have chosen to order my life to be consistent with my faith, my wife, my family, and my community."

Rowlett Essential Services
Both people and businesses want and deserve a safe community. We must ensure that our police, fire and other first responders have what they need in order to provide for the well-being of our community. We must provide the resources that will not only attract but retain the very best uniformed men and women who are always willing to rush into harm’s way to keep us safe.
Infrastructure
Both people and businesses want and deserve better infrastructure. Its probably an understatement to say, but there are many streets and bridges that can no longer meet the demands of increased growth in our city’s population. There are many complexities involved in improving infrastructure, with cost being the primary driver, along with coordination issues with the City of Dallas for the bridge that goes over the lake. However, we can do better, and we need to be more intentional in prioritizing these projects and communicating status updates to the citizens.
Essential Framework
We need a better framework/process for attracting new businesses to our city. Whether it’s true or not, our city has a reputation for not being “business friendly”. Now, I am not for just opening the flood gates and allowing all development to occur without good, common-sense rules and regulations. We must have solid standards for which a prospective business or developer must comply. However, they must not be so burdensome as to dissuade a would-be business (especially a local business) or a developer to take their business or projects elsewhere.

ABOUT MIKE BRITTON
Committed to the Community
Mike was born and raised in a small West Texas farming community. It was there where he learned many of the values and beliefs that still ring true with him today – values such as honesty, integrity, service and a love for this country. It was also in this small West Texas town, at the age of eleven, that Mike entered a life-long relationship and walk with Jesus Christ. Above all else, it is his faith that has kept him grounded and focused to be the man God designed him to be.
Mike’s view of the world is formed through two distinct areas. First, and foremost he views life through the lens of a biblical worldview. The biblical principles and precepts of God’s Word help him view and meet life’s challenges as opportunities for growth. Secondly, twenty years of service as a U.S. Marine created in him a life-long mindset that looks at practically every situation from the vantage point of three values – Honor, Courage and Commitment. Will his decision regarding the situation maintain his honor, will he have the moral courage to face it, and will he remain committed to his beliefs? There were many situations during his twenty years as a Marine where his character was tested, refined, and strengthened to the point that he is dedicated to living out his values.
The love that Mike Britton has for his country prompted him to want to be a U.S. Marine from an early age. Upon graduating from high school, he fulfilled that dream and enlisted. Although the training was grueling, tough and seemingly impossible at times it forged his character and set him on a path to always strive for excellence in all that he does. Mike went on to serve as a Marine for twenty years and retired as a Master Sergeant.

Upon leaving the military Mike worked as a government contractor in Washington, D.C. before joining the telecommunications industry. During his 16 years in this industry, he served as a Senior Manager for a nationwide and global internal data and voice support organization. Besides being responsible for the leadership of over 100 people, he was also responsible for the procurement and maintenance of a multi-million data/voice infrastructure. Mike finished up his professional career within the healthcare security industry where he served as the North Texas Director of Healthcare Security. In this job he was directly responsible for the hiring and training of both armed and unarmed security officers in various hospitals in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. He also served on various hospital committees where he wrote security-specific policies and conducted security risk vulnerability studies. As a certified handgun instructor, he also provided all the armed security training, qualification and re-qualifications.
Mike has been married for 54 years. He has two adult children and nine grandchildren.
Mike is active in his local church and serves as a Deacon and adult Bible teacher.
